We're a 6 hour drive from the ocean, so don't even get much rain from a hurricane. We don't have a big river to carry away the water. (Crazy place for a city, without much fresh water supply.)

Add to that, in the past 10 years we've been in a drought AND having explosive growth. Most of us have no guarantee our current job will last the rest of our lives, so need to be smart about contingencies. Better to consider these things now, without the added emotion of a layoff. Take control; don't leave everything to your company.
