Mind Candy

There are times in my life where I haven't felt up to reading anything that takes any mental power, but I HAVE to read SOMETHING...before bed, in the tub, etc. I refer to these books as mind candy. They don't involve me emotionally or mentally. I usually read romances, or chicken soup books ...or even Archie comics when I feel like this. Do you feel like that sometimes? What do you read at those times?

I don't know if anyone has noticed by I have been AOL for awhile due to an incurable computer which I have recently replaced. Unfortunaely it may take time to get back to speed but I have not spotted reading-if anything I have read ALOT and hope to start reviewing, especially in my favorite category-mystery.

I know a lot of people here use libraries, but I'm interested in the actual cost of buying books.

The price of books has been creeping up for a while lately, I really noticed it when I bought 2 books together the other day. For a standard paperback we pay around $27 AUD ( that's about $22 US) and around $45 AUD for hardcovers ( around $39 US)

I went to the AAUW used book sale this morning, held in the Methodist church here in Big Rapids. The ladies running it were all very friendly and welcoming, and everything was neat and the books were organized by categories. And people were still bringing books in to donate.
The books were $2 each for a hardcover, and 50¢ per book for paperbacks. There was one table of "special books"; fairly new ones that were in like new condition, that were just a bit more. I got a mix of...

I have a lot of books in my TBR pile. 300 or so. I kid you not. I used to belong to book clubs where I'd get x amount of books each month and I got behind in my reading and/or life. So now I have a bookcase full of unread books that I do want to read. Here comes the problem. My husband wants them out. Now. He doesn't want them all in the house as it appears I will not read them. Hey everyone, I just noticed that the Reading Logs subforum clocked up it's 1,000th post sometime in the past few days. I realise that as a measure it's a bit inaccurate with some posts going west during the ezHack so long ago, but that's a lot of books read by board members. Heaps of people post about multiple books in the same post, so it's well over 1,000 books, too.

All that reading! So many good books, so many shared opinions! It's inspiring.
