A switch box won't save you any pin damage if you still have to unplug the extensions from the laptops when you move them -- it will only save the pins on the cable to the monitor. Worse, if a pin breaks inside the computer (female) end, it will likely render the VGA port useless.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do about this. Even DV-I cables have this weakness. It's kind of ironic, really -- with all the advances in computer technology in the last 20 years, you still have to plug the monitor in via a D-Sub connector.

I guess all I can recommend is that you be careful.
