This title has been on the best seller list for ages! I finished it last night and now I understand why. I had dreams about the characters all night long - and in my dreams I was also recommending the book to everyone I saw.
It reads rather quickly and is interspersed with pictures from circus archives.
The story centers around Jacob Jankowski and his accidental and unlikely affiliation with a traveling circus. The author develops the characters and their personalities so that you find yourself cheering and booing them throughout the book. They are believable - and I had to keep telling myself the book was fiction. The author states in the end notes that several of the incidents she has written about are based on true events that she discovered when researching her book.
