I have an eclectic collection of early works, from mostly by early Christian writers (the Latin doctors, Hildegardt De Bingen, Methchilde De Magdeburg, Pseudo-Dionysius, some of the early Saints) to what would have been considered "heretical" or "questionable at the time they were written and/or popular (Plato, "The Hermetica" is one, the "Occult Philosophies" Of Cornelius Aggripa, the Gnostic works as well as early Christian/Jewish apocryphas, the works of major alchemists, ancient Romans such as Plotinus, The Clavicles & the Black Pullet) ... Basically a hodge-podge of mostly western thought/and early philosophies/ histories
I read these in a historical context (i.e. Not looking for something to believe in), so things like Crowley, Swedenborg, the Golden Dawn or Blavatsky are not really what I am looking for (though I have read them). I am more interested in reading early Christian/philosophic works (beyond the canonical texts), early Kabbalists- preferrable middle-ages or prior to that. Going through what I have read would take pages, but I am always looking to read more. Most of what I have come across up until this point was mostly works that were cited elsewhere in those that I was reading at any given time ...
In short, I was wondering if there mightn't be any other armchair historians out there that might have some suggested read. (I believe I have hit/read most of the Romans; from the historians to the philosophers; but if you know of something a bit more rare, please suggest those as well.) Also have read Josepheus' "Histories of the Jewish Peoples". It doesn't necessarily have to be an old work itself (ex. I enjoyed reading Charles Grant's histories of both Caligula & Constantine as well.)
*Don't sweat trying to figure out what I have read and what I haven't, that would be rough for me to do at this point (though if mentioned in specific, I will know whether I have read it or not)
Thanks in advance ...
Peace,
Po
