On his way to the dinner, Edward crashes his car. While he is making his way there on a hay cart , he meets a young Communist journalist, Verity Brown, supposedly on her way to interview Edward's sister-in-law for a magazine called Country Life. On their arrival the general drops dead of poisoning. Lots of suspects and lots of possible motives and Corinth and Browne join together to find out the truth.
This series is suppose to be a tribute to the tradition of Sayers and Christie-and it does follow that kind of story telling. I will say I found this particular redinition rather dry. And it had a few nasty bits at the end which I think were unnecessary (the bodies do pile up at the end). I do have most of the books of the series so we will see if things improve. The first effort rates a 6.
