28 year old Justin Halpern found himself having to move back home with
his parents after his girlfriend dumped him. Working at home, with his
73 year old father, who was by then retired and home all the time, he
began to understand his father through adult eyes. He started posting
his father's (often expletive filled) words of wisdom on Twitter, and
Sh*t My Dad Says became a sensation online.
This book isn't just a list of quotes though, it tells the stories behind them; taking place during family vacations, Little League games, breakfast at Denny's, but more often, in the the family kitchen over a bowl of Grape Nuts. Even though his father was often gruff and blunt, you could tell he loved his family above all else.
This was a laugh-out-loud, quick read. I really enjoyed it. But if you are easily offended by curse words, or think that all fathers should be like Ward Cleaver, than this probably isn't the book for you.
